Land, water & livelihoods

A small orchard.
A lasting possibility.

NABARD-supported Tribal Development Fund programmes connect orchard development with practical support for tribal families.

Maa Thota / Wadi

More than an orchard.

As NABARD’s Project Implementing Agency, Vanasamakhya supports orchard-based livelihoods through the Venkatapuram Mandal Maa Thota Development Committee.

The project covers 500 tribal families in 10 villages: 450 through Wadi development and 50 through livelihood support. Mango and guava plantations, border planting, intercropping and water-resource development form a connected package.

The approach builds on NABARD’s integrated Wadi model, where orchard development is supported by natural resource management and community institutions.

What this looks like in practice

Land, water and livelihoods.

Orchard development

Planting for the future

Quality grafted mango and guava saplings, teak for border plantation, layout marking and support for intercropping.

Water resources

Helping young plants survive

Water-resource assets, farm ponds and field coordination support irrigation during the critical establishment period.

Inclusive livelihoods

Opportunities beyond Wadis

Alternative livelihood units support landless and non-Wadi families. Of 24 units sanctioned and released, 23 were grounded by March 2026.
